There were quite a few service-learning collaborations during Hackley’s November 30th, 2020 distance learning week.

  • Upper School AP students met virtually with Middle School 7th graders during distance learning week. Together, they worked on oral and aural practice of verbs like “gustar.”

  • Upper School Advanced Communication in Spanish students created an INCREDIBLE music video about animals (to the tune of J. Balvin’s “Despacito”) for the Lower School Spanish program to use during the week.

  • Upper School Post AP: Language and Culture students have curated and created original content in Spanish and English on Indigenous peoples from the Americas for Ahimsa Meghan Philpott’s (Class of 2014)  7th grade Social Studies classes at the Fannie Lou Hamer Middle School in the Bronx.

  • Our Upper School and Middle School partnerships continue with a mentorship program in the Classics Department! US Latin students worked as mentors for MS students. Together, they worked through the tricky parts of the exercises, US students learned by teaching, and MS students had the opportunity to hear the material explained by their peers. Bonus: Middle Schoolers were glad to know that the US students found Latin hard too!
